In 1338, French forces raided the then-thriving trading port of Southampton. England’s King Edward III immediately ordered the reconstruction and reinforcement of the town’s defensive walls. Seven centuries later, sections of that massive building project still remain, testament to Southampton’s rich heritage, with links to The Mayflower, RMS Titanic, the Supermarine Spitfire and much more to add to the over-arching Southampton experience.
