Southampton shopping spots for last-minute cruise essentials

You’ve booked your cruise, you’ve headed to Southampton, but you’ve forgotten some of those last-minute essentials!  

Don’t let this stress you, (you aren’t alone!) there are plenty of places within easy reach of Southampton’s five cruise terminals for you to grab those forgotten items, whether it’s toiletries, adapters, outfits or snacks.  

A quick guide to last-minute shopping near Southampton cruise terminals 

  • Closest shopping centre: Westquay Shopping Centre (10–15 minute walk or 5-10 minute taxi ride) 

  • Nearest supermarket: Co-op (Southampton High Street) 

  • Best for everything in one place: Westquay & Above Bar Precinct  

  • Short on time? Take a 5-10-minute taxi to Westquay Retail Park 

Where can I shop before my Southampton cruise? 

Westquay 

Best for: one-stop shopping before your cruise 

Southampton’s flagship retail area is Westquay shopping centre. Westquay is situated approximately 1-mile from the cruise terminals. It’s a 10–15-minute walk from City and Horizon terminals, and around 5–10 minutes by taxi from Mayflower, QEII and Ocean terminals. 

At Westquay, you will find plenty of shops to choose from. If you are in need of last-minute toiletries, there’s a large John Lewis & Partners store, The Body Shop, Rituals and Space NK (plus a selection of others). If you are on the lookout for last-minute clothing items, browse M&S, Next, Flannels, Fat Face and Hobbs – with more formal attire such as evening dresses available at, Phase Eight, Zara and Suits Direct.  

Whether you need a new pair of trainers for your cruise excursions, or a pair of heels for the formal evenings, you will find plenty of choice with a number of footwear stores located in Westquay as well such as Schuh and Office.  

And for packing essentials such as suitcases and bags, you will find a selection of items in Westquay’s larger department stores; John Lewis and M&S.

The Marlands 

Best for: quick, practical essentials and budget-friendly last-minute buys 

The Marlands Shopping Centre, found just off Above Bar Street, offers a range of clothing stores including Moss Bros and Roman. It is also home to Timpsons – perfect for any last-minute shoe repairs and a mobile phone shop if you are in need of phone chargers, adaptors, phone cases and the like. 

For affordable toiletries and competitively priced health and beauty products, you will also find Savers and One Below. 

Southampton high street marlands

High Street and Above Bar Street 

Best for: practical essentials, stationery and large clothing stores 

These two central areas are home to a number of stores including a large Primark and TK Maxx. TK Maxx not only has a range of clothing, including women’s eveningwear but also has a large range of luggage and travel extras on sale.

Supermarkets and grocery stores near Southampton cruise terminals 

If you are looking to get last-minute food, drink supplies or snacks for your cabin before your cruise, you will find a Co-op convenience store on the High Street (a 5-10-minute walk from Ocean terminal) and Lidl and Tesco Express (15 minute walk from the terminal) 

Within Westquay is both a Little Waitrose (found on the ground floor of the John Lewis) and an M&S foodhall.  

A large Asda supermarket is located opposite the Marlands Shopping Centre and is around a 20-minute walk from most of the cruise terminals.  

For specialty goods, the high street is also home to shops such as E&J Oriental, Go Oriental and Asian Mart for everything from snacks and sweets to drinks.

Pharmacies and chemists for your medical needs 

If you require any medication, sea sickness tablets, pain relief or standard cold and flu or allergy remedies, you will find a large Boots chemist store in West Quay Retail Park (approximately 10-minutes’ walk from the Horizon cruise terminal) and an alternative Boots on Above Bar Steet, just outside of the main entrance to Westquay shopping centre. A Superdrug and Holland and Barrett can also be found on Above Bar Street just minutes away.
