How to support small businesses this Small Business Saturday

There are plenty of simple, meaningful ways to show your support for Southampton’s independents this Small Business Saturday — and many of them make a real difference.

Shop in-store or online

Whether you’re picking up gifts, treating yourself or stocking up on everyday essentials, choosing to buy from a local independent helps keep money in the local economy and supports the people behind the counter.

Share your favourites

If you’ve found a brilliant business, shout about it. Leave a review, share a photo on social media or recommend it to friends and family. Positive word of mouth is invaluable for small businesses.

Try somewhere new

Use the day as an opportunity to explore a part of the city you haven’t visited recently or step inside a shop you’ve always walked past. You never know what you might discover.

Attend local events and workshops

Many independents host pop-ups, tastings, talks or creative sessions — especially at this time of year. Taking part is a great way to get to know the people behind the business.

Engage with their social channels

A like, comment, save or follow might seem like a small gesture, but it can make a real difference for small businesses. Every interaction helps their posts reach a wider audience, increasing visibility and introducing them to potential new customers. Take a moment to explore their social media channels; you might discover new products, events, or even behind-the-scenes stories that you wouldn’t see otherwise. Engaging online is a simple way to show support, share the love, and help Southampton’s independents grow and thrive all year round.
