With so much to see and do in Southampton, it can be difficult to explore the city in just a few hours, but it’s not impossible! The QE2 Mile is a self-guided walking route that runs through the heart of the city that is designed to introduce you to Southampton’s hottest spots and most historic monuments in just a short amount of time.
Begin your journey at the top of Above Bar Street, between West and East Park, where you will find The Titanic Engineers’ Memorial. This historical landmark was first unveiled in 1914 and is dedicated to the brave engineers who died when the ill-fated RMS Titanic sank on 10 April 1912.
Follow Above Bar Street south, stopping at one of the city’s most beloved coffee houses, Mettricks Guildhall, for a delicious cup of Joe, made using only the highest grade specialist beans from around the world.
Don’t stop for too long though as next on your list is a little retail therapy. Whether you stop at the familiar retail brands on Above Bar Street or dip into Westquay or The Marlands Shopping Centre, you’ll have access to over 200 shops.
Feeling peckish after that shopping? Head to one of the stylish cafes or restaurants at Westquay South. Perhaps a traditional pasta dish at Zizzi, or meze at The Real Greek.
For those who prefer to keep going, continue to follow the QE2 Mile into Southampton’s medieval Old Town, passing more of the city’s famous monuments and memorials, including the Bargate, RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 Anchor, Holyrood Church and Quilter’s Vault.
End your walk with a well-deserved beer at Dancing Man Brewery, a 13th-century wool house turned award-winning restaurant and pub located just by the waterfront.
